Our opening night for Speaker Evenings will be on Wednesday 22nd March 2017. 7.30 – 9.30 at the Rothwell Community Hub, Marsh Lane Rothwell, LS26 0AEWe are very pleased that Ian Roberts has agreed to be our first guest speaker.Forty years ago there had been relatively little archaeological investigation of the extensive crop mark landscapes which had begun to be recorded on the limestone and coal measures to the east of Leeds. This talk looks at how, particularly over the last 25 years, research and development-led investigations have begun to reveal the nature and chronology of these landscapes, from the early prehistoric to the early post-Roman period.Ian was until recently the Principal Archaeologist at West Yorkshire Archaeological Services. His career has included many of the most important excavations in West Yorkshire. Ian will be sharing with us some of his favourite sites and finds that he has been associated with. There will also be an opportunity to find out more about South Leeds Archaeology, our plans for future talks and our own investigations.
